Applicants must be qualified teachers with a degree and a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience. This experience may be at the elementary, secondary or tertiary level. Retired educators are eligible. Teachers from all subject areas are welcome to apply. ESL experience or qualifications are not required but welcome.

Applicants must have excellent oral English communication skills.

Applicants must be in very good physical and mental health The weather in July is hot and humid in the province of Jiangsu. The teaching site may not be air conditioned and the classroom is sure to be up a long flight of stairs. Being a guest in an unfamiliar setting can be stressful.

Applicants must be 65 or younger.

Applicants must be flexible, able to work with others, tolerant of the unfamiliar and willing to go with the flow. Participants will be working with others in an unfamiliar setting. It is important to be able to support each other and work together in a collegial manner.

While in Jiangsu, participants are guests and are expected to graciously go along with the arrangements made by the local hosts. The food and local customs will be unfamiliar. Good guests adapt themselves rather than expect the locals to change.
